Want to make a pressure brake bleeder. Where can I get a plain cap (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HD23&mospid=47408&btnr=34_0216&hg=34&fg=25) - without the switch, to fit a 1989 535 master cylinder reservoir?

TIA

How 'bout the lid off a 540i 6-sp clutch reservoir?

COVER LID 21521119541 $3.11
It's the same part number for an older 2002/1600 before they used the dual-circuit brakes. (I haven't tried it, but it's a guess)
OE part for only $3? For everything else there's Master Charge!

The 540 6 speed clutch fluid reservoir is different. There is no sensor connection on the cap and the size is also different.

Have you thought about using a short length of coolant hose? Its not pretty, but an old upper rad hose fit the resevoir in my M50 snug. I then used additional rubber to fit it to the compressor end. Worked well enough. Just watch the pressure ;)

Just returned from the local hardware and also the local Schuck's (http://www.partsamerica.com/Default.aspx) Tried a ouple of caps - no luck.

If I knew the correct size and thread pitch of the cap life would be easier :p

The jury rigged thing with the hose is a last resort :(

Thanks

Most european cars have the same cap. I know my SAAB's do. You can go to a junkyard and expand your search if you have time.

I use a Motormite 42035. Sold under the HELP! label at PepBoys. It also fits '88 -'90 full size Buicks, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs. It doesn't come with a gasket (Motormite 42104) and it has a vent notch in the gasket surface that must be filled. The silicone I used to hold rubber gasket in place fills notch nicely. Drill a hole, insert a tire valve stem, hook up a compressor (10 PSI max!) or bicycle pump and you've got a simple, effective one-man brake/clutch bleeder.
