Is there a way to test the PCV plate? Partially too cheap to order one, while curious to its mechanics as well. Is it completely closed-loop? Or does it open to atmosphere during some normal function? The damn thing seems overly complicated for its purpose.
Pulled the intake on my 540i. Very oily inside the intake and under it - the two vent pipe o-rings need to be replaced. The actual aluminum pipe is somewhat deformed, as well. Erg.
I'm seriously considering removing everything in the valley and blasting it clean.

My Intake too had a lot of oil because of rotten PCV. As far as I understand the oil should not even come till PCV. It should have been already seperated by the Oil seperator. Look at (1) in the link.

May be experts can confirm.

That's what I'm going for :)
I know some oil vapor will be present in the gases vented from the crankcase and if that pipe isn't sealed well enough, it'll collect below the intake and PCV. I didn't have liquid pools of oil or anything.
I'm more interested in how the damn thing works, so I know if my old one is still good enough to use.
Here's what I know: It vents gases/air from crankcase to the intake. When the engine vacuum reaches a certain threshold does it close that loop and open ventilation to the open atmosphere - preventing the crankcase from receiving too much negative pressure?

Engine gunk cleaner and razor blade. But the engine from a 93 740 has only 66k miles. There has been little use. It was sitting on the shelf for a few years after being pulled from a collision damaged e32.
I put in the new valley pan. That's how I know the old style valley pan, or valley pan gasket is no longer available.
