Could someone explain how EWS I work in layman's terms? I am trying to diagnose a no start situation (starter doesn't run, no voltage to the starter solenoid) after hooking up a jump start wire to a ground nut which burned the jump start wire in the wiring harness at the final stage of my 6 speed conversion.

I pulled the starter immobilization relay and opened it. It appears the SIR is fried. I jumperd the power side of the SIR socket (from the ignition switch to the starter). Didn't get a voltage to the starter solenoid when I switched to start.
My guess is EWS I which this SIR is a part of is preventing it from starting when the SIR removed and the socket jumpered.
I've ordered the SIR from the dealer. It may take up to a week to deliver, if not more.
