Hi Guys! I did a search here and found the part number for the inline non-return valve - 16149068988, and an approx US price of $7-ish. So I rang my dealer (I'm in the UK)and gave him the part number and he said he'll need to order it in and it's £150+. Yes that's £150!!!! For a non-return valve? I would imagine this is a fairly common and cheap part in cars, boats, 4x4s, fork-lifts etc. Anyone know of a alternate supplier either in the UK or who will ship to the UK without charging a king's ransom?

Thanks for all your help!

Any fuel check valve will do, as long as it is layed out for 3 bar.
Ask an after market shop or the VW. Ford, Vauxhall, Benz dealer etc.

The Bosch dealer has them in any case

Thanks for that Shogun. There's a Mercedes Truck/HGV parts centre next to where I work. I'll pop in on Monday after work and see what they have.

Thanks again,

I've just found these on ebay. What do you think? Will one of these do the job?

I got one for $3.xx from my dealer, are you sure he entered the right part number? Try another dealer?

Looks too big, don't forget you have to put the cover back on.

Hmm, I never thought about that - yes that might be a problem. What would happen if I fitted it further downstream, say 8 inches, closer to the inlet of the fuel filter? Or would that sort of defeat it's purpose, due to vibration etc?

Thanks,

What would happen if I fitted a non return valve that was for a diesel car? Would my engine rattle, belch out black smoke but do 60 mpg? (LOL). Or is there a serious technical issue, like... it'll rot or something?

Cheers,

Shaun

Well the fuel upstream of the valve would still drain back but it wont be as hard to start.

I have more information from another local BMW $tealer - the non return valve kit that I originally wanted is not available in this country (!). So the US guys can get them for like $3-7 and I can't get one for love nor money!! Odd eh?LOL

I'm in the UK. I was going to orderthe kit from BMA, but when I filled in the online order form, the postage quoted was something like $50! Somehow I can't justify that for a $5 part.

Cheers,

Someone could grab one at the dealer and send it to you for a few bucks. If I lived in a town with a dealer I'd have one in the mail today. You might wany to call Patrick or Yves and ask them for a proper shipping quote, $50 is steep for a small item like that. I think we sent trim and side markers back and forth for a lot less than that.

Anyhow, let me know as I could have one shipped to me and then forwarded to you.

Hi Dave,
I've just bought an aluminium one on ebay for under £5 all in. It's for a diesel car but I don't suppose that'll matter too much, even if it's only a temporary fix - it's really embarrassing cranking and cranking my car at 5.15 am every day! I would prefer the genuine part though, maybe next time you're at the dealer you could pick me one up, obviously you'll be fully reimbursed! ;-)

Cheers!

I'm calling the dealership for some small items tomorrow. I'll add it to my list and let you know when to expect it. Hope the temporary fix works out.

Well, I thought we had it but.......... this morning it spat up again right on cue.

When I get a better idea of 'what gives' I plan on doing a write-up, but essentially, I’ve replaced everything you sent me except the coils and O2 sensor (they’re next). I’m ordering a DME relay and coolant temp sensor tomorrow and we’ll se what that does. The car is headed inside for the winter any day now, but I’ll continue to spin it around to check my progress. The odd thing is that after unhooking the batt cables overnight (when I had the manifold pulled- twice :D ) it didn’t sputter. It takes a day or two to return to its bad behaviour. Who knows, maybe its in the DME, yeeesh.

Let me know if you need anything returned ASAP.

OK. Call Yves Bright at BMA phone(888)2623911 and give him the p/n, address and credit card and i'm sure it wont cost more than $20.00. Tell him Leister sent ya!!

Shawn, if you're watching this thread, I've ordered the valve, it will be in my hands early next week. The dealer had to order it (probably from europe ;) ), hence the added time.

I'll let you know when i'm sending it. Oh, its ~$11 CAN, or ~£145 less than you were quoted :)

Later,

Dave M
