Shells maybe they mean bearings? Maybe what you're describing is rod knock
maybe it is bearings! theres so many names for different things
the way it was described to me, is that the subframe comes out and then the sump and then what i need to repair is there. sound like bearings?

you can see the bearing shells going into the connecting rod "big ends" near the start of the video. It is not uncommon for the crankshaft to be re-ground to ensure each journal is perfectly round and not scarred up. This part cannot be done thru the sump.

Good luck,

ah i understand which part now. shouldnt be too difficult me thinks. if it needs a new cam shaft then ill break the vehicle for spare parts. are you saying i cant replace the bearings through the sump?

I think they mean shells like the shell in your signature picture.

Hang on a minute! If it's banging and knocking then those bearings are toasted, and the journal(s) that are being bashed about will be out of round anyway. Replacing the bearing shells will only work for a little while, maybe a week - you're going to need the crankshaft reground and new oversize bearings fitted. If you look at my (simple) web pages you will see my current M20 engine with impact marks on piston no. 6, caused by a worn bearing shell. When I took the crankshaft to my local machine shop, they had to regrind every journal to make it good. Definately not a weekend job, and quite costly too!
Cheers,
Shaun
damn, really? if thats the case then i might break the car, cheaper then sourcing out a new engine
