are armrests interchangeable (probably dumb question)?

Are the armrests on my E34 interchangeable? I ask this because on both, the top side is worn, but I'm wondering if I can turn them 180 degrees (worn side down) and switch the passenger side with the driver's side. So, basically I'm asking if the armrests are completely asymmetric ..... I hope I'm making sense. If so, I can switch them, and the worn side would be down on each one.

I had the top of the driver's really worn and had to replace it... I matched the leather colour (not easy) and removed the old one... used it as a guide for making the new one. The factory one is put on with the foam inside compressed, so it is very difficult to have the replacement one as tight... mine worked out, but I was lucky. Sorry, don't have a photo.
