im new to this forum and to the bmw world. I bought a 92 525i and want to put a little more power into it. What would be the best "bang for the buck" when buying upgrades. im trying to keep it less than $500 any suggestions? HAHA shows u how new i am i just put "e32" instead of e34 in my profile name i feel like a jackass.

first and go over all the things that may not be working, then with the $$ left over see what can be done.

spark plugs, EAT chip, high moly oil change, new diff and trans fluid, coolant flush, water pump, thermostat, O2 sensor, fuel and air filters, some higher octane ethanol free gas, and a DME reset (implied when removing it to add EAT chip).
only what is applicable of course, if some of that stuff was done recently then obviously dont do it again.. unless it was done wrong.
of course there is much much more you can do, but that will be more $$$. start with making the car run 100% before ****ing around, as its much easier in the long run.
also, put more info in your profile, like if its an auto or manual, how many miles, and the country the car is located in.

Like Blitzkreig said, fix all the stuff that needs fixing first.
Fluids
Hoses
Maintainance
Get her back to solid condition first.
Then... Chip it. Best bang for the buck.

Get in touch with your local BMW chapter and attend a driver school. There is no better way to see what you and your car is capable of doing.
Attending one of these schools will certainly give you a feel for what this car can do without lifting a wrench, well, unless you break something....
I'm serious, it would be the best money ever spent.

I'm a new E34 525 owner too. Of all the research, putting a EAT performance chip ($230) is the best bang for the buck. I'm planning to order mine in the next couple weeks.
