Been through all the old post on it, one thing I cant find is what is the right type of ATF to use in the zf slush box for 540i in Australia? It appears the states have slightly different products. Over here our suppliers only has ATF Dexron III grade available, but from reading the old posts it seems the 5HP30 uses ATF Dexron IV or higher?
Anyone in OZ can help?

hello fellow ausy, i am in perth and have just done a trans service because the pan was starting to leak.
There is a place called Auto Classic in perth who sell the correct fluid. DO NOT USE ANY FLUID as this will destroy your box. Go to a dealer as each box is different (blue code etc).
It cost me nearly 300 :( just for the fluid but it now runs as new with smooth shifting. Also note it is not easy to fill and make sure to check the level when the box is cold and not hot as I found out. This caused a strange noice in the morning until I found out that it needed another half a liter.

I did my first round of ATF change with Royal Purple Max ATF. it smoothed out the shifts. I should be doing the second round of ATF change soon.

Good luck I would not use anything else than the correct fluid. You might save a couple of hundred on fluid but will cost you more in changing the transmission.
Go and get the correct fluid from a BMW service center.
