actually those are for 5 bux in our place, the cost from china is less than 1$, I bought 2 types one with the high intensity 1Watt LED and the other with an LED matrix I got them for less than 7$ from china town in Dubai. but this new type of lighting is going to be used in cars soon, a matrix of high intensity LEDs in the head light area. that would be the best as we wont be worrying about dip beam messages

Sorry to bold but I want everyone to see this.

I use the Streamlight Jr. Luxeon, at home, work, and on the car. It is a amazing flight light is I can tell you is better than proably any other LED light that is out there, it works great close, and very long ranges ie in a movie theatre (where I work). It comes with a great belt clip and a nice belt case. It is about $30 bucks, and comes with a no BS lifetime warantee, I have 2 Streamlights, they have both broken once but once was serviced locally for free, adn my Jr. Luxeon was replaced free of charge for a brand new one with it started working in correctly. Great company, great flashlights.

Other lights on their website I don't know about, the other one I have is the Stinger HP XT.

this is the same flash light I bought but with 3 X AAA bats inside but the light is the same 1 Watt super high intensity. my point was that those companies are buying these stuff for less than 5$ and selling them for 15 on wards ... I have bought 3 flashlights and one nice miniature Lazar pointer and a super bright white flash light for 1$ :)

I have bought a few different ones and they all seem to have the same problem. The light is very bright to look at but it doesn't carry very far.

8 of the newer generation luxeon 1 watt and various led worklights. Along the lines of JR's thread, Sears had or has some Dorcy 3 watt luxeon's that have a much higher output than the 1 watt but it you want the current leader in high output per watt for led's then the Cree led's are the current best but it changes all the time... Cree now has a 3 watt that puts out 182 lumens

Here's a post where he's trying to replace some 500 watt halogen floods with cree 3 watts (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=140425)

These are the absolute best LED flashlights I've worked with:

http://www.fenixlight.com/

...so good that I distributed them for a while. If you get your hands on a modded one, they are INCREDIBLY bright, while still running on a single AA battery (or less). Check them out (local distributors).

simply that's cuz it's almost 1watt, power carries the light. that's why head lights are 55+55 Watts or 100 Watts for high beams. but if you had the same power like 55Watts from an LED it will travel farther than tungsten light.

I haven't bought one...yet, but this thing looks like it could be really handy for working on the car. I can't remember if I read about it first in a thread here or not.

Hey thats pretty cheap for a head strap...My co worker has the saftery glass led lights, dual leds, but sometimes its not sufficient enough, the one you have loks like it should be.

I upgraded to a LED light after I always always changing bats in my Mag Lite-76.8 lumens..Now I have this...LED Light..http://images.lowes.com/product/693748/6937481300036.jpg

Its a white light which gets rid of the reflection off the chassis, engines, etc. And its fricking brighter...

Then I purchased that 14 LED flash light and thats even more better obviously. Range is very good too.

That's one heck of a deal. It's an exact copy of my StreamLight Twin task, even down to the wrist strap.
I think I paid about $30 a year or two ago for it......Nice little torch !
If you sign up for the HF mailed flyer it's an additional 15% off discount with the coupon on the back of flyer.

Multi-LED is stupid, it just makes the viewing area broader and prevents throwing of the beam ebcause there is no way you can put a reflector on that monstrosity... lol

Good for reading and maybe workin on a car, but nothing long distance or spotlighting.

What do you guys think... Streamlight Strion, Stinger, Stinger LED or Fenix L2T?

I think the stinger's too big (esp the head), plus I prefer the tactical end-button. Stinger LED is nice, my only gripe is the push button. Can get em on ebay for about $90 shipped, and that comes with AC and DC chargers. Strion is a better size, and pretty bright. A little concerned about the chargables tho... the Strion says "300 charges" in a battery lifetime, Stinger LED claims 1000.

Fenix is nice, I can get one with the 2xAA body as well as the 1xAA body, and just swap them out... cheapest option as well ($50 for the flashlight, $60 with the extra body).

What would you guys suggest?

Also, can someone explain the practical difference between candlepower and lumens?

That Stinger XP HT looks AWESOME too... I dunno if the head is too big tho.

Fenix, hands down. Comes with holster, lanyard, and several replacement gaskets/o-rings. I have all of them and the only one I don't like is the tiny AAA powered one. While it still outperforms most of it's competitors, you just can't go back after using even the single AA ones.

Yeah, but it doesn't throw 40,000 candlepower like that Stinger XT HP does. The bulb lasts more than an hour tho, which is a plus. ;)

You still got Fenix hookups?

What do you think about the deal they're running with a L2T and extra L1S body for $60? Will an L1S body on the "T" head perform the same as an L1T?

I'll check to see what pricing I can get now. I only have modified ones now. If you're into the whole deal, this is the place to be:

http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=17

I can't comment on the combo because I haven't dealt with the now "newer" body types like L1S or L2T.

I want something that I can leave in the glovebox for months at a time, and pull out and operate at 100%. Should I use alkalines or rechargables?

Bill R.

neither one will last you months and months... Lithium ion rechargeables are the way to go if you need long battery life.

Really, even just lying around? I'm not talking months of use, just standby. May end up going with the 3w led Fenix L2T and some nice rechargables...

Get Lithium (NON-rechargable) AAs and they will have power when you need it.... even when it's bitter cold outside. Almost a toss it and forget it scenario.

less than $20 from walmart
http://www.gagravarr.de/images/lampe_dorcy_1w_1.jpg

This used to be the flashlight in my fire gear (i am a firefighter) and it has seen its share of temp changes and water, i now have
http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=20
but this one is a but more expensive as it has to conform to hazardous environment specs, but it sure lights up nicely

I was referring to the "neither one will last you months and months" part. 10 year shelf life, I'm fine with that.
