Hey Everyone,
I've got a 1989 520i and everytime i turn the ignition on the coolant guage goes into the red and then quickly goes back down to the blue part of the guage, i've checked the coolant level and its ok, any idea's whats wrong and how to fix this?

Does it go up to the red section when the engine is cold? After a few minutes running does it show a more accurate temperature? (ie rising to the 12 o'clock position).

yeah when the engine is cold it goes into the red section and it goes straight back to the blue section within 2 secs or so

OK, what I mean is, after say ten minutes driving, does the guage show a 'normal' temperature. Does the needle come out of the cold section and start rising towards 12 o'clock? I used to have the same dash as yours, before I put the 'digital' one in. I never had any temp guage problems with it.
HTH.
