my first bmw was an e38 728i.. (sold for a stupid reason).
after few months bought a 97 528 which i kept for a year..
had quiet few problems with it and didn't have any knowledge how to solve problmes or what to look for.. i sold it and went back to my old maxima and every car i drove since was not satisfying to drive like my bimmers.
i decided that i can't live without a bmw.. i started looking for one and ended up with a 93 525
just curouis..any other guys here had an e39 and "downgraded" to an e34?

Interesting
my e39 was much better at corners..it had an upgraded suspension and wheels..the car used to corner like a dream.
i never drove a stock e39 though
my e34 (stock suspension) is better at cruzing and i like the seats more..but im not as confident to corner fast as i was in my e39
might think of a suspension upgrade sometime later but dont want to sacrifise rides comfort and smoothness..im getting old i think!

Yes, I downgraded from a E39 540i Sport. Boy do I miss the quickness and torque. When/if I go back to the E39 it will be an M5 for sure.

Take a look at my Cardomain site. I have a modified suspension; New Steering Box; all new front end; New Rear end 3.15LSD; RD Sways; HR Springs in Black; Toyos. My e34 handles better than my friends e39 Stock M5 (of course I'll add - IMHO) I think they drive better. My e39 is a totally stock 528iT. It is a grocery getter and will never exploit the apex of a corner nor know the thrill of "turn-in". - JT

I went from a e34 535i to a e39 540i. Hated the e39. So I traded it for a e39 wagon for the wife and bought myself a e34 540i/6sp. Love It!

I got an e39 as a first bimmer, now I want to get an e34 to fix up as a daily driver/ cruiser.

I like both, but I must admit that the E39 has higher limits to its roadholding, braking etc. (Both have stock sport suspension). :)
Biggest advantage of the E 39 is its superior ventilation system ! ;)

I have driven 2000 528i Sport (E39) many times (friends car) and I have my 1995 525i with Koni/Eibach setup and both cars with 17" wheels. I think my 1995 525i handles much better than the 2000 528i Sport (likely do to upgraded suspension). I think E39 528i have more lower end power and it is definitely more refined but my E34 525i feels more agile and more pleasure to drive.
