I purchased my '95 530i 3 years ago and have had to replace both oxygen sensores twice already. Before the second replacement the head gasket was replaced and I thought the problem was finally fixed. Now "check engine" light is on again (less than a year later)! I'm almost certain it's the oxygen sensors again. The car has 96K. Why are my oxygen sensors getting burned out every year!?! :( Please help. Thanks.

it's more then likely the sensors are not the problem and it's something else effecting the mixture, the computer runs out of adjustment and then throws a 02 control code, air leaks are the most common problem on the v8s, the pcv plate on the back of the intake is the main offender with the rest of the intake gaskets next inline including the often overlooked gasket that seals the throttle body to the intake, they crack on the bottom side, air mass sensors can cause problems but usually show up as running problems and throw their own codes when bad enough, clogged catyletic converters can give v8s fits too

On other threads I see something about a stomp test for oxygen sensors. Wha is it and how do I do it?
