OT: Australia win the Ashes over England - 5-0 whitewash!

For those who don't know, we're talking about cricket here :) The Ashes is a tournament between England and Australia where they play 5 matches ("Tests") to compete for the Ashes, a small trophy with the cremated remains of the wicket stump of the first England v Australia competition that Australia won in England, so many years ago.

What makes this special is that Australia beat England in a whitewash - 5-0, the first time this has happened for about 80 years.

Most of the Americans on this board probably don't care, but there's a few Aussies and English people that come on frequently :P

They are similar, but not directly related.

It seems that cricket, rounders, baseball, softball etc derived from earlier "folk games", and aren't directly derived from one another.

Heh, I've even seen it snow in Queensland.

A very (un)lucky person even (somehow) died in an avalanche here once... we have a region of alpine hills that is consistently above 1000m in height (amongst that area is our highest hill, Mount Kosciuosko is a leg-wobbling 2228m).

The flora in this region is almost all unique to it, We have two species of unique gum tree (euacalypt) that only grow above this altitude (in this area) and many specialised marsupials and insects that have evolved there. One of the oldest glaciers is here too- the remains of the moraine path is over 600 millions years old- so snow on this continent was once much more plentiful...

On a personal note I can vouch for the snow too. I even posess snow chains for my e34!

And I've dislocated both knees and broken one leg in 26 places- all on snow in seperate skiing accidents- and all of them in Oz. They say if you can ski here you can ski anywhere as the conditions are generally so bad that we learn to ski on anything and everything... in my case the learning took more than most :P Nick

btw; getting back on topic- isn't it great to send the Poms home in a pall of S - H - A - M - E ! They can drink on the plane but they can't hide the shame.

Heh, it makes me laugh. Our 'best' cricket players losing 5-0 to Australia. Good on the Aussies! Maybe instead of our players getting MBE's and other daft awards, they should knuckle down into practising their sport, instead of just humiliating themselves. I live in a gay country LOL!

I think you are being a bit harsh
As much as i hate to admit it(swallow) the Aussie Cricket team is THE team to beat at the moment,all the other teams are miles below them.
