is it really that iomportant to retorque the shock

bolt under load? the one that holds the shock to the trailing arm? I know after you install lowering springs on the front u must re-torque the thrust arms and control arms.

on the rear you should only need to do the dogbones under load, when i did my shocks front and rear... i still only did the dogbones.
