View Full Version : Replacing touring trunk gas struts?
Hi, one of the gas struts on my tourings trunk has failed and I need to replace it, it looks like I need to remove lots of trim to get to the mounting on the trunk lid, has anyone done this? the weather is pretty crap here so I can't get out to take a look at the moment.
Thanks
Mark

Be prepared to have some of the old plastic parts crack and break, otherwise not overly difficult. If you are replacing the inner struts for the glass, remember that the ball part that the socket fits into inside the cavity is perpendicular to the ground and comes out from below. This is not what I expected. You can't really see inside there very well so keep that in mind.
Thanks attack eagle, I replied to your PM.
Brick8, its the large outer ones so I'm hoping its not too tough!

I find it helpful to use a bungee cord or some strong rope to tie the open hatch to a rafter in the roof of my garage rather than using a prop to keep it open. Less likely to let go and catch your fingers that way.
