How difficult is this? I have read about many guys with 530i and 540i autos changing them and it being very simple. Anybody recommend a place to pick one up? Any tips from people who have done it?

they rebuild and offer upgrades for the BMW trannys aka GM 4L30E. If anyone can tell you it's them.

All you need is LOVE (http://tridem.han-solo.net/auto/erich/valvnew.pdf). Takes a little while, but not too bad. Unfortunately for me I ended up getting a new transmission anyway.

I plan on fixing the trans out of a calypso touring I hope to pick up and put in the black one I have now as I plan on selling it to my little sister. The calypso is getting a five speed :D
