Anybody had good experience with using alternate O2 sensors, such as those for Ford, etc.? What works well, what does not?

What's the cost savings? I picked a new sensor up for 70.00 or so online.

Local parts places quote ~$45 for a 3 wire Bosch oxygen sensor for a 1990 Ford Taurus, 5.0 liter Mustang, etc., Bosch part number 13942, 13913, or Ford part no. DY606. These are said (by others in these forums) to be adaptable alternatives for the Bosch sensor with the BMW number. Reportedly, the old plug from the Bimmer is spliced onto the new Bosch/Ford sensor wire, and works hunky dorry. This info from these archives.
The local parts joint quotes $172 for the Bosch oxygen sensor for my 1990 BMW 535ia, or ~4X as much for what is reportedly the same sensor with different plug. Hence my prior question about suitable substitutes.
Where did you find a BMW 535i-specific oxygen sensor on the internet for $70?

There are several places online...oxygensensors.com have yours for 80.00 or so (the 70.00 price was for a 525, I didn't see where you spec'd the car being a 535). I bought an OEM, I didn't want to monkey around with splicing since I was having someone else do the work as part of a barter.
If others in the forum have had decent luck with the ford products, then go for it.

I just picked up an O2 sensor for $100 from partsbmw.com. Still expensive but less than $172.

Do the 13532 and 13533 for the M60's have more economical equivalents as well?
I'm not sure I'm reading my ETK right, but it kind of sounds like I need 2 of each = 4 for the 540i/6... Ouch!
Cheers,
Duey
