How do the heck do I get my dashboard to change back to english. It is a 89 525i. The dealers don't know how to do it and neither does the customer service of BMW of NA. I have 4 different german words telling me something is wrong and I don't speak german. What the heck, can anybody help out there?

Turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, press and hold the button beside the bottom of the tachometer for 10-20 seconds, the languages should start to scroll, if you miss it keep trying, it'll come around again. There are several to choose from....

Try turning off the car, then hold onto the Check Control button (right button on the dash), then switch the ignition to position 1. Keep holding the button for 10 secs or so and the dash will allow you to change languages (press the check control button to scroll through).

EDIT: if that still doesn't work, write down what it says in German on your dashboard and post back in here, we'll probably be able to figure it out for you.

If you cannot change it, just post the German here and I can translate it.
In case that happens often, you may need to change the capacitors
