Import Numbers

Does anybody know the number of 535's auto and 5-spd imported to the US across the years? How about 540ia, 540 6-spds? I talked to a guy at BMWCCA event this weekend. He also had a 540i 6-spd Black over saddle. Exact same car as me. He said it was considered a sport model (Recaro Seats, 6-spd) and there are only 260 in the US. Now I know about the M-sport car with the fancy suspension and badges but a sport 540? Anybody know the import numbers on these. Maybe my car is extra rare?

5k total imported through 93 with only 78 coming in in the last year. the numbers he gave sound about right for the sport. I have seen 540s with sport seats and the 5 speed. don't know how many came like that though. I can fwd the numbers on the 535i if you like.

I had heard that in 1995, there were approximately 400 540i's that came into North America (both Can and US models) with the Sport package (Recaro Seats, 6-speed Getrag, #5 BBS wheels 'std' but heard that some had M-parallels, or other wheels as ordered through the dealer). The 'Sport' model was much like the E39 options that were M-Sport packages or components but not the actual S62-powered ///M5. That said, the 540i/6 is a very nice beast...especially chipped! :D
