OBD1 interface

I have googled and searched for a while on bimmer for some answers but I didn't seem to get it final.

is it possible to use those new softwares that monitors the car speed bat. volatge... etc via the OBD1 plug? I saw many for OBDII.

I just finished setting up my car PC and I wish to install the diagnostic software to my E31 so I saw few converter from 20 pin OBD1 to OBD2 but is the protocol the same? and can I read data real time to my PC via RS232 or USB.

id like to know too, but I dont think it will work. It really depends on how adaptable the software is. I think obd1 specific software would be necissary.

check this (http://www.gnetcanada.com/dd-carpc-software-overview.asp) website they have a nice software for car PCs. but they mentioned OBDII I wonder about OBDI. take a look
