John Deere HIR bulbs - no longer a bargain

Recently, someone posted that you could get Toshiba HIR 9012 low beam bulbs for $9.99 each at any John Deere dealer as that's what is used in its 9000 series tractor, bargin!!!

Well, I inquired at my local JD dealer and they out of stock nationwide. Why? Because it appears Ford Explorers, various Toyotas and Chevys all use the same bulb, and when word got out, there was a quick dash to the nearest JD dealer.

When I inquired about new stock, I was told that they expect it in around March 3, 2007 at the NEW PRICE OF $23.99! Further, looking at JD parts online, and the new list price is $29.99!!!

So for all those who got in at the bargain price, enjoy. At $24-30 per bulb, I guess I'm sticking to my stock bulbs, sigh....

darn- I have had two on backorder since early january from two dealers. I check with them weekly. No one has mentioned a price increase. When they come in, I will try to get them to honor the orignal price.

BTW,I have a receipt from another dealer where I paid $9.99 for one ann it is installed and seems to be much brighter with no problems.

Also, they will not fit a 98 explorer as it uses a 9007. Must be newer explorers.

If you really want a set, I actually got mine at the JD dealer a few weeks ago. After trying them, I decided I was going to stick with my Sylvania XtraVision bulbs instead. I tried to sell them in the classifieds section of this forum but didn't hear a peep from anyone. So, I finally decided to put them on Ebay. Another guy sells them all the time on Ebay. He lists them at a Buy-it-Now price of $26.95 per bulb. I started my auction for two bulbs at $25. The auction ends late Saturday night if you're interested. I have also already modified them to fit in the E34 low beam housing, so whoever wins them will be able to plug them as soon as they get them.

I understand they really work well with projector style headlights. Does the 91 e34 have the projector lights? I understand some 34s do not.

just picked up a John Deere AH211917 bulb which is the Toshiba HIR 9011 for $9.99 from my local John Deere Farm Implement dealer. It has a black tip and is made in the USA. The first AH11917 I purchased in December 06 was made in china and did not have a black tip. Any idea why?

It is probably why it is $30 a bulb now... made in USA compared to China...

Payed 10 for the new bulb. Perhaps the new JD bulbs are still only $10 or they honored by ordered price. Anyway, hope they are sitll a good deal.

My 91 525 is NOT equipped with projectors (some call the other lights freeforms, I call them dangerous). I am currently in the process of converting to US projectors and adding HID. Should 'see' a big improvement ;)
