Hey guys,

I had a tinny clunk coming from the driver side rear of the ol' e34 and it sounded as if it were coming from the strut's top nut. After looking at it, the rear shock mounts were cracked so I replaced them and the sound is still there (although quieter).

Could the shock be so bad that it's causing this problem? It is on the original 137,000 mile shocks! I know it needs new ones, and new ones are on their way, but could this even be the cause of the problem?

I took video of it for those who want to see what I'm talking about.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

looks like the shock is sticking inside. Shouldnt take too long before it busts up the new shock mounts.

swap them.. they're inexpensive and easy to replace... there's one 21mm nut holding the shock to the lower arm (trailing arm?) 94 ft lbs on the torque... easy job

Yeah, I've done the job a few times (swapping suspensions, etc) but just wanted to know if it was the shocks before I started the job or if there were other things I should fix / replace at the same time.

Thanks for the info, guys :)
