Does any one have any idea what i should do with the rubber wire that is connected to ignition wire #6 up by the distributor side. it looks as if it leeds to underneath the intake manifold but i'm not sure. in the pic i provided, it is the third from the top.
i haven't purchased a new set of wires yet so i'm not sure if this wire also comes with the new wires.
my guess is that it is some sort of electrical surpression, but how do you remove it?
thanks

It is the pickup for the injector phasing by the dme. It routes around front as 1 of 2 connectors near the front of injector rail. The other connector is for the crank sensor.
Jeff pulled the end off the spark plug wire to replace wire while keeping the sensor. I bought a new plug wire set from BMA with a new pickup wire attached.

thanks for the info martin, did you purchase a particular brand of wires from bma. also do you like a particular brand for the head gasket.
thanks again

I'd defer to Winfred or Bill R for the gasket recommendation, if different.

the inductive pickup is the m20/30 version of a cam sensor, it comes on the new wire set (it's what makes the set cost so much, look at a 87 325e and a 87 325i, same wires but i has pickup)it goes under the manifold. elring is good and i really like goetz (spelling?) (except the bastard i got for the 90 535 head rebuild that i could of finished up today IF it had BOTH upper timing cover gaskets)
