Whats the benfit for a lighter flywheel?

i was wondering how my car would react to this mod. will it be quicker bottom end but i lose too much top? i have no idea.. can soemone with some knowlege on the subject please enlighten me.

As far as I know, you don't gain or lose any power or torque...

It allows your engine to spin up and down faster as it does not have as much mass to spin around.

What the down side is I do not know...

The lighter flywheel has less momentum. So if you launch with it reved up you will not have that added momentum. When you are driving the engine will be able to put the power into changing the speed of the car not the flywheel.

I would think you would have more mid/top with less bottom end but i'm not really sure. I think the biggest advantage is that you can shift faster as the engine will rev up or spin down quicker with the clutch in.

You can also loose a little smoothness. Best suited for racing / Autocross applications IMO, not really much gain in day to day driving.

A lot of money for not a lot of promise. I don't usually recommend it. People like that it "revs" faster. But they don't realize that when you engage the clutch it pulls the revs down also.

ah okay. thanks for the info. im just trying to figure out ways to get power out of my ride without having to do a total internal rebuild and swap or forced induction.

The rattling with say, an 8.5 lb flywheel is loud as hell. VANOS x 10.

Lightened flywheels can certainly be a help to acceleration, with some ifs and buts. Tech-heads should read this -
