View Full Version : Computer unit light?

Just the other day, the light that lights up the LCD on the computer (one next to the radio) went out. I could see the display in the dark but not during the daytime since the backlit is out. Can you replace the bulb for the LCD or need to purchase another unit?

Don't listen to the dealer, they'll try to sell you the wrong bulbs. Their data base still shows the older e28 6V bulbs which will burn out in a week. The correct number is: BMW part no. 62 11 1 368 299 and they are 12V, 1.2 watts, get 3 of them. About $ .70 ea the last time I bought some.

Could all three go out at the same time? All the buttons light up. Only the LCD backlit is completely out.

One or 2 of the bulbs might have been burned out already & it was only after the last one blew that you noticed it. The older e28's were wired in series & if one blew they all went, but the e32/e34 version each bulb has direct power.

Thanks for the advice. I went to the BMW dealer and they tried to give me the wrong ones like you said. They said it suppose to have 6.5v bulb. The bulb from the computer is 12v/1.2w. They didn't have that part in stock by BMW but it coss-referenced to Mercedes Part # 000000000953. The dealer I went to is BMW/Mercedes dealer so I was in luck... It is the same bulb but it's from Mercedes... :)
