OT: Talk about crumple zones, just...wow!

Came across this on the interweb. Un-freaking-real how this car was just destroyed around the driver. Guy hardly got a scratch!

What you see is what you get, i.e. there was no cutting of the vehicle prior to the pictures being taken.
It is my brother-in-law that you see holding the mobile phone, he honestly doesn't know the speed that he was going at but wasn't near as fast as he has done in the past on that particular part of the road.

Although the road was completely dry he said that it felt he was on ice and the car just careened into the tree. He actually called the emergency services and climbed out of the car by himself, he spent only a couple of hours in hospital, apart from a few minor scratches he got a bandage around his little finger, I told him if he's not already religious he should take it up ASAP!

The car WAS a pristine RS6 ABT, I was supposed to pick it up that very day to borrow it from him for a week as I've always wanted to try out the ABT version. He really should have simply told me that he didn't want me to drive his car I'm so happy he is alive and all in one piece.

He was just extremely lucky that the drivers area wasn't the point of impact.
Crumple zones had less to do with him surviving this than where the point of impact was.

No kidding, good thing he only took out a tree (actually, said tree still there...sturdy 'lil thing).

i can beat that, i don't see any evidence that it was cut on by ems so the driver was ejected, the firewall is crushed right down on the seat, if there was still a driver they would of dug in there to retrieve the feet

it even broke the head in a few places, the starter is squashed too

whatever ran over him left this stuck to what use to be the a pillar, now it's behind the gas tank

Jee-sus, I can't see how anyone could've survived that one. Anything on that thing you're keepin it for? Rear roudel seems ok, can't see much else not destroyed...

we got it for the cost of the tow from down the street, a out of state yard bought it sight unseen and **** when they got wind of what they got, it was cheaper to give it away then truck it home, i haven't had time to screw with it yet but the converters are worth almost $300 as cores plus the dead weight at maybe $100 a ton, there may be a few things that survived, ****er got hit so hard in the front the diff flew out breaking the subframe both axles and the driveshaft, someone put it on the passenger floor

Crumbs. Poor guy. Either he just hit the tree by accident or the procon-ten-intelli-traction-quattro-whatever system was imagining it was driving sideways at 250kmh on oil and ice and tried to fix the problem before things got too hairy.

I loved the design of the first quattro (but not the bow bound engine arrangement), other than that I don't really get Audis approach to anything really. Still compared to i-drive and lifelong oils I guess they don't stack up that badly against the others' offerings as found in new car showrooms these days. Seriosuly I think I'd be bored into buying a VW Golf GTI or a WRX. A new 3/5er? I doubt it.
