Just seen this on ebay UK, this car has digital climate control. I have never seen this before on an e34 and didn't know it existed! Maybe this could directly replace the auto climate control dial controls without any mods!!

This is definately a unique option...

Wow, that's awesome. I think it would do a bit to update the rather dated look of the current climate controls.

Gorgeous car altogether.

I'll take that auto climate control and a moonroof, bitte! :)

While, I like the looks of the Digital Climate Control...I'll take the Analog style any day. After owning several E36s and an E39 with the Digital, they tend to have a mind of their own, along with this they look awful when the LED screens fail.

That is aftermarket, E34 has never been delivered with this design.

Actually i think it idles ok, look at the other photo. Think someone might have revved it in park!

I noticed the revs, he must have his foot down but why would you take a photo of the dash with the revs at 4k if you are selling. Seems a bit strange to me but I'm sure the car is fine.

So if the panel is aftermarket then someone must be making them somewhere and they must be a direct replacement.

One of the lights on my climate wheels has gone and replacing the bulb is a soldering nightmare (for me anyway) - and I think the wheel panel looks a bit ugly (i'm used to mine now), this unit doesn't look the most modern but i think its worth having just for the novelty factor and that its unique!

cannot think what it was on but that panel comes from another car,Range Rover perhaps. Quite agree with digital control foul-ups,whats wrong with a knob that works?! as long as you throw away the pollen filter that is.

I'll believe all the experts, but it sure looks OEM to me. Someone did a nice job.

That touring is back on ebay, has some nice touches just a shame about the damage, still tempted, the mtech suspension and the LPG would make a massive difference to mine.......

Still haven't seen another one of those digital climate control panels..

Yeah, its a shame about the rear parking sensors.......i reckon they decided they didnt want the outer left sensor where they first ''half drilled the hole''!!!

Nice car but a lot of money.

When I try your link it is no longer available.
ALSO I end up with a tab to Girly Myspace setup?? That will NOT CLOSE.
It happened twice each time my drive started grinding away and things got vveerryy sloowwwwwwwwwww. Restarting was slow tto but the only way "out"
Am I the only one bitten by this goofy link?

Amazingly this thing came up on ebay so I took a punt, its definitely 80's style digital compared to today's standards.

Just one problem...its not plug and play, it fits perfectly but the harness is completely different, there are far more connections on the current climate module than on this one. Anyone got any ideas?

definitely not a BMW part, no BMW part number sticker on it. Most probably from an after market aircon.

I did think it was aftermarket but I thought it would have the same harness.....although that would be too easy :)

Could it be the car it came from had an aftermarket a/c system fitted? The plot thickens...

Hi LB15,

the heater/aircon setup in any E34 I've seen always operates the flaps to dirvert air with bowden cables which would be a major PITA to convert to a electronic servo type arrangement. I'd think it would be several times easier to take the heating/aircon unit from an E32 which uses these type of actuators already and make it fit.

Also I've seen pictures of the E34 dash in a completely different car. I believe this is not a reto-fit but a case of a russian (I think) manufacture using the dash design in a different car. Perhaps this is where the part came from ?

I think you are referring to the A/C using cables which is a different system to the climate control. I believe the auto-climate control (with the wheel controls) connects electrically to actuators as you've described but this is standard on some e34s.

As its electrically connected I assumed the I/O would be the same but where the original control unit has maunal inputs this one accepts push button inputs and has a digital display, bit like the clock / computer set up - the connection to the car is the same on both but the features are different.

Well I've done some more dogging around and found this thread:

http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=39969

It looks like this unit will only control the aftermarket air con system and is not intended as an aftermarket upgrade to the standard climate control unit. In light of this I guess it would be a major undertaking to map it's outputs to the connections on the existing car harness. I will ring the company that this thread refers to and see if they know of a harness that will map the outputs but I suspect its a no go.

I've never heard of a diavia aircon system but it looks like a few e34s had them.

Woking :) That's only around the corner from me... wonder if they're still open.
