According to the owner's manual you should get:-
40.9 mpg at 56mph
29.4 mpg at 90mph
21.2 mpg Urban cycle
However, in the real world you are looking at 80-85% of those figures, even less if you drive it hard/go uphill/have a car full of prostitutes etc. I don't know how they worked those figures out LOL! An E34 with auto box and 2 ltr M20 is going to be crap on petrol, even worse than my car.

e34 525i 24v is the best bang for the buck if you're looking for small consumption with a petrol engine. it has about the same consumption like the 520i, but you have additional 42hp :)

Thanks guys....You can buy E34s so cheap there. But I guess the cost of registration gas and insurance makes it more expensive then here. Just saw a grey market 1989 on autotrader I thought about getting for my wife. It has under 90,000 miles and body is in good shape. But too little power- only 150 horse power makes it not so attractive. The mileage numbers are good for here. I am only getting about 17mpg combined in my 535.

I have a habit of warming the car up too long in winter. That screws with my mileage. But even on highway miles I only get 26. Because I let it idle too much I am doing a full tune up when it warms up. Maybe that will help. I do have some wandering idle sometimes. Seems to run smoother in winter mode.
I bought a bolt kit from Don Gale for the spray bar to wire it down. I also read from Shogun about bending the spray bar so the outside cylinder will not get starved from oil when car is in slow rev....will complete it soon when valve adjustment is done this spring.

my 520 gets 1 mile (10 kilometeres) to the litre
was a little better with the cps plugged in (maybe .0.9)
but thats an m50 motor which came from 92-95 (150 hp)
the previous motor was only 134hp ...think...
anyways I get that mileage and I drive normal maybe even a bit aggressive sometime... I probably should have bought a 525 but the way I like to drive
I have a hard time keeping 150 ponys on a leash....;)
keep in mind you have to drive them pretty high on the revs to get this hp or else its a slugg...anyways (I think around 4400 rpm) which kinda freaked me out at first but after tracking fuel consumption it doesn't really make a huge difference unless you really drive like a granny.

1mile = 10km??? are you from sweden? :) that's how they count it. AFAIK - 1 mile = 1.6 km.
and if you get 10l / 100km, that's great :)

i don't think plugs can do such a difference, more a thing of a good compression and intake/exhaust system.
