QQ re E35 M5 Stock Wheels

I've been looking around for a '91 or '93 M5. Is it just me or are the stock wheels with that turbo looking hubcap ugly or what? Is that a hubcap and if so, are the throwing star wheels underneath that? If anyone can share some details I would really appreciate it. Thx a million.

No it's not a hubcap. It's a working turbine fan that blows air across the brakes to keep them cool. They attach to the wheel like the throwing star covers do but incorporate a turbine fan design inside the cover to cool the brakes. Some people like to run the wheel without any cover, for looks.

I like the turbine wheel covers, they are functional and unique to the E34 M5 and from a distance, they make the tires look like they are sporting whitewalls....the ultimate sleeper.

M5's are not to be taken lightly. They can suck large amounts of cash out of your wallet if you're not well informed, especially upon initial purchase. Buyer beware....never rang so true.

Some people have looked for over a year for the right one to come along.

Thanks. I've dumped a **** load of money into my E34. Is the M5 considerably more expensive to operate? I know this is a complex question and also know that the engines are very expensive. However, what about all the other stuff like radiators, water pump, trans., clutch, brakes etc. Are thos parts outragiously high compared to my '94 530i?

All of the stuff you mentioned above (radiators, water pump etc) are unique to the M5, and therefore expensive. I spend waaaay too much money on my car every year just keeping it running the best that it can

$9K is el cheapo for an M5 of that mileage. Get a PPI and if it checks out it's hard to go wrong. Things that make me nervous from the limited information on that autotrader site--limited pics, none of the drivers seats/odo, etc, and the red plug wires [aftermarket] kind of thrown on there and not cleanly routed. Small thing but someone anal would have properly routed the wires...

MAKE SURE YOU GET A PPI AS REBUILDS ON S38s ARE $12K-ISH

As mentioned above these cars aren't cheap to maintain, and you need to make sure someone who really knows the S38 will be working on it...not many of those folks around. FWIW, I love my e34 M5 and wouldn't replace it with anything else but another S38B38 next time, so if you have the scratch to take care of it the way it should you should grab it and not look back...
