I went out to the car tonight and noticed that the backlight was lit up all by itself in the ccm portion of the instrument cluster. No key in the ignition, lights/switch was off. WTF? I started it & all OBC/stalk functions performed normally. Did an instrument cluster self-check and that cycled all the normal VIN number & various displays & gauge needles dance.
Pulled the CCM module & re-seated it -- no change. Pulled the LKM & re-seated it -- no change. Fiddled with the cluster buttons & light switch -- no change. I finally back-probed all the fuses & they all read 0.0 ohms except one. Fuse #20 read 4.4 ohms so I changed it -- problem solved! The fuse cover says it's for a "clock", but the OBC time didn't reset, must be for the basic clock for cars not fitted with an OBC(?).
Wish they were all this easy. Never had one do that before. Glad I didn't have to tear into the capacitor fix.
