Hi I got my seats from an E32 7 series but I'm struggling with the electrics! I have the loom but don't know where to put it. There are two other smaller looms which go forward and to the rear. I have only the 12 pin plug on my 5 series. Can anyone help please?

If you have the late E32 memory wiring harness, it plugs into the existing driver's seat harness connector and then routes to the seat. If you have the earlier style seats/harness, then it may have to be spliced into place.

Tried putting seats from a 93 740 into my 95 525 and the 12 pin plugs are different. Wires are in different locations and the plug is slightly different so it wouldn't plug in without modification.

Better check the year of production.
Also: what do you mean by electric?
With memory seats? With heated seats, lumbar support?
Here are all E32 wiring diagrams

Its a 1989 750i with electric headrests, memory, lumbar support etc. Am I right in thinking that the 12 pin plug on my 1990 525i is all I need after changing the wires round? What about the other two parts of the loom from the E32?

Maybe that helps you

I took my 11/88 750iL, which is a 1989 model, with memory seat, electr. headrests, lumbar support, heated front and rear seats, single rear seats, electric and also heated.

well, I found my problem. After searching though schematics I believe that the e32 seats should have two 12 pin plugs. X275 and X626 according to the schematics here --> http://shark.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/index.html
When the boneyard removed the e32 seats they unplugged X626 and cut off the harness to X275. I tried plugging in X626 into X275 so obviously that didn't work. I do have enough wire left that if I can source the X275 connector and pins, I should be able to plug in the seat.
I'm still curious though if the memory for the seat will work without the memory mirrors and steering column inputs or if the software will try to throw a code and prevent it from working.

Uh, again, until you figure out the exact production date of the donor car and what system the car the seats were sourced from uses, I don't think you'll get an answer. The cutoff date for the early system is 3/93.
If you have the late system, memory on the seat typically works fine without the column or mirrors in place. Sometimes it gets messed up and has to be reset. Fairly simple.
The late system's body harness is the exact same as any non-memory car. The memory harness has about 7 connectors for the memory control module and seat, and unless those are plugged in, nothing -- not even seat movement -- will work.

So which is it? Uh, have you actually done this yourself or are you taking information from another source?
Not sure on the production date of the car but the module I have is a 61 31 1 388 561 meaning it is an early production. (61 35 8 356 510 is the later module)

Haha...I'm one of the few crazy enough to do the full conversion, with bits in other cars.
You know what they say about kicking a gift horse in the mouth. Lucky for you I'm not easily offended.

61 35 1 388 561 and 61 31 1 378 662 are the early modules. So perhaps the harness has to be spliced (don't know), and the memory may or may not work (also don't know). My knowledge only pertains to the late system, as mentioned.
I have 3 E32 750 parts cars at the shop, the remnants of another four 750s in crates, and I bought another one today -- an 11/92 with some great and rare options! One of these days I'll get into the early system.
so e32 seats (not "il") are a straight swap? any modding needed? can u post some pics?
