Hi All,

I changed all four brake pads and rotors 15 months ago (10k miles ago) . I got "Brake Lining" message already. Is it normal or something wrong?

Thanks
Arun

It depends on how you drive your car and how good your brakepads are...I suggest you look at it, it might just be a bad/cut pad sensor. But on the other hand replace your pads if its worn out

If you reuse old sensor, they will go bad and give you false signal. Happened to me already.

I dont know. My indy changed it last time and he said it is BMW / OEM. I am not sure. This time I will do it my self. This forum has taught me more now :).

Thanks

There`s a tiny spring clip that holds the sensor to the pad,lay odds it`s given up and out comes the sensor, easy to check, reach under and feel, you can also check if the connection has come apart, just reach further up.It pays to spray cleaner on the strut electric socket too.If the pads were cheap **** then tough, pay peanuts, get monkeys!

I will check if it is faulty/disconnected sensor.

Which brake pad and rotor is OEM for E34. Where can source them for best price? Can I replace the front brakes alone?

Thanks
Arun

you can do the front on their own but you should eventually get the same pads on all 4. The rotors are cheap at bmwparts.com, you might have to call if they arent on their site but I remember the opparts rotors being like 25 bux each for the front.

I was thinking of getting Balo rotors and jurid (improved compound) pads. Does impoved compound here mean semi-metalic or ceramic?

The Balo rotors I saw on Autohaus (for part no: 34111160936) says it is 300x21 mm. But real oem says it should be 302x22. Can I use 300x 21 instead of 302x22?

If I choose to replace the pad alone. Do I have to turn the old rotors in lathe? How to know if its time for replacing the rotors?

Thanks
Arun

try this:
http://www.bmaparts.com/item.wws?mfr=OPPARTS&sku=BMW074518&price=28.53&orpartno=1371587&cookieID=21L0PBSPX21L0PC1HF&drillid=9&image=http%3A%2F%2Fcatimages2%2Esophio%2Ecom%2Fweb app%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2Fimc%2Fimages%2Ftn%2 F40506125%2Ejpg

Im using the raybestos QS and love them, no dust, no noise and no breakin required.

I wouldn't use OE pads unless you really like the dust. I haven't turned rotors in years, just replace them if they're bad but they should easily last through two sets of decent pads. I just put the pads in (lubing the pad-to-carrier contact surfaces to prevent squealing) and keep on going. I also use a touch of anti-seize on the caliper pin threads and disc-brake lube on the polished surface of the pins themselves. At least that's my experience with re-usuing rotors. Within the past week I've replaced rear pads on both the 525i and my kids' 318ti and had no problem reusing the same rotors and sensors (and no problem with mixed brands between front and rear axles, either.)

It might help you to know that the pad wear sensors are only on the left front and right rear brakes. Pad life is always less on automatic-transmission cars.
