How do you know when things are looking up? .... try this:
(The following has slightly pharaphrased for clarity of plot)
(Phone Rings, a friend from CA)
Me: Hello.
Friend: Hey Matt.
Me: Hey guy, what's up?
Friend: What are you doing the weekend of the 22nd?
Me: Uhhh.. same old same old I guess, staying home and watching the newborn.
Friend: Do you think you could fly out here to Cali for the weekend?
Me: Gosh. Dunno, what's up?
Friend: Going out to a DE (Driver Education) event. Would you like to come along?
Me: Wow. I didn't know you were into that...
(Exchange ensues where both parties learn for the first time the other does DE events/is a car nut)
Me: Oh gosh, I just don't think my wife will go for it, as tought as it has been with baby and all that, for me to take off for a whole weekend. But it can't hurt to ask.
Me: Where exacly is this taking place anyway?
Friend: Willow Springs International Raceway
Me: And how much would it cost me?
Friend: Nothing. You'll be in for free.
Me: What about a car to drive? It'd take too long to bring my M5 Touring out there.
Friend: Got it taken care of care of. You'll be stuck driving a Porsche GT2, but also some time at the wheel of a Viper, a Sporttech (Pointek Enginnering, see; Sports Car Intl, May 1994), Honda S2000, Porsche 996 Caabrolet, and a Radical SR3.
Friend: Will that work for you?
Me: I guess so. I'm only a beginner though.
Friend: Me too. There will be some great instructors there.
Me: Uh, what about lodging?
Friend: All Provided for.
Me: What about the DE Entry fee?
Friend: As I said before, you're my guest. It's all taken care of.
Me: meals....
Freind: All provided for. Gourmet everything. done and done. All you need is the airline ticket. I have you picked up at and taken back to LAX.
Me: I don't think my wife will...
(Interrupted)
Wife: Honey, I think you should go.
Me: Uh.. gosh. Thanks dear.
Wife: No problem. In fact, I *want* you to go. Don't worry about the kids. We'll be fine.
Me: Uh, that means I'd have leave out Friday. But things have been real tough at work lately...
My Manager: Take off Friday the 21st? No problem. Everything's going good around here. Enjoy the time off.
Me: Uh. Ok.

Allright, who is going to top this for a good Monday?
