I need another key for my 89 535i

I need another key for my 89 535i. I have been looking around on the web and it looks like there is some special procedure for some BMW's. Is there a write up on how to purchase a key and programming it if need be?

Your 1989 model does not require any programming of the ignition key. If you are in the USA, any dealer can order a key for you using your VIN. The cost varies but is usually in the $50 region for a non-coded key. You can also check in your area and see if any locksmith can cut this type of key for you. Blanks can be had from places like ebay. Be aware, however, that making a copy of a worn key will simply duplicate the old worn one. HTH
