Tell me why i shouldn't replace my two clogged cats for one highflow 3" in/out Magnaflow with Y pipes?:D
I need to replace them, in order to upgrade i would have to purchase the "bullet" style due to the limited space, which would end up costing quite a bit.
So im asking what would happen, and would my emmisions suffer from one cat?

I've heard you might throw an engine code...

I thought they had a small cat with offset inlet/outlets. Looked like you could fit two in easily.

Just buy some Magnaflow cats and weld them in to its original place. Each one is like only $90.

you only get CEL with OBD2 cars if the new cat is sub par.

Thanks for proving me wrong! Seriously I was hoping that it wouldn't throw a code :D

How does it sound? How much did the shop charge you for the welding?

My cats are fine for now... Won't sound any different... maybe a bit more low end growl but tiny bit. If you bring your car to those mom and pop exhaust shop, they will give you fair rate... If you bring to Mineke or Midas, they won't do it unless you buy their cats at $500 a piece. I don't think you will see $300 to do both cats for you.

ok, im dumping the idea of one cat and a y pipe. It is the same design BMW used for the 535i, but the i6 cars only use 1 o2 sensor. Having two, i dont wanna screw witht the placement or fabrication.
I did find these though:

Anyone know if our pipes are 2.25" or 2.5"? Ive emailed the seller, asking if he had other sizes.
heres shelbyz4u2nv with straight pipes, res. delete and stock muffler on his 540i:

so i was under the impression that if i kept the resonators, i would have a sound close to ^those although a bit milder with barely any rasp.
Tiger, are you saying that i wont get that much sound after installing aftermarket cats?

Cat will provide more free flowing since it is not plugged... but it won't alter the exhaust that much... very minimal as if you were to let it idle at higher speed. The muffler and resonator is the one that controls and how car sounds.
