Just got some new wheels (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=GH83&mospid=47531&btnr=36_0382&hg=36&fg=15) for my 1989 535i. They are size 71/2Jx16 ET:20, basically same size as the stock wheels (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HD23&mospid=47408&btnr=36_0086&hg=36&fg=15) just a 1/2 inch wider and a inch bigger in diameter. Was planning on putting 225/55 R16 on.
While playing here (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html) I got the idea of putting on some 245/50 R16's.
Both the 225/55 R16 and 245/50 R16 will keep my speedometer spot on.

My question is will the 245/50 R16 tires fit my 535i with rubbing anything? The car is stock height but I my lower it in the future.

Thanks

Jim

I'm asking similar questions about fitting 275s or maybe even 285s. Currently running 265/35/18s so 245s will be fine!

lowering doesnt play an issue unless you drop it like a homey, as for your size selection I am not sure and wont guess.

Try using the tire calculator (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html)with the viewing angle set to "end".
It should give you some idea of how far you might stick out. Since you are using same offset, any extra width should end up split evenly between the inside and outside of the wheelwell.
Also remember that tire measurements vary some from brand to brand once installed and inflated under weight.
