Where do I find the engine code?

I'm new to E34's and would like to install a chip but I need the engine code. Can somebody please help me with this?

Thank you very much Jose. I was hoping there was an easier way like checking the vin#.
So this will be the equivalent of doing the chip install twice pretty much?

no, you can just look on top of the DME to get the code, no need to disassemble anything except opening up the box on the right side of the car.
