Ok, anybody ever fixed their fan clutch to run all the time? I read about replacing the clutch with a piece of aluminum plate. About to have to replace mine (will be the third one in 2 1/2 years). Any help would be appreciated.

it will explode the fan blade, it's not designed to spin at those speeds

Ok, that pretty much takes care of that.....

Thanks.

Sounds like you should get a different brand clutch if you have been through 2 in 2 years. What symptom tells you that it is bad anyways?

With the engine off, fan has no resistance when you spin it.

Engine running and at normal operating temp. fan spins slowly, can stop it with my hand ( I know, not the smartest thing to do), turning on the A.C. does not make any difference. No increase in fan noise or speed.

I remember reading this a while back, does the car overheat?

I drive mostly highway miles, doing 70 it doesn't get past the 1/2 mark, but, when driving in town, it will slowly creep up to the 3/4 mark. I haven't let it get any hotter than that......

Part of my temp creeping problem was that the radiator fins were so clogged with crap that adequate airflow through the radiator was not occurring. Also bled the system like crazy to help a bit. All-in-all, a *thorough* flush and cleaning of the cooling system, including taking a very soft brush and a lot of garden hose to the radiator fins, was my remedy

Flushed the radiator out the other day, I haven't checked the radiator itself. Will do that tonight..

Thanks

You sure don't want an exploding fan. I lost a single blade & now have a huge dent poking up through my hood. Looks like I slammed the hood down with a wrench still under it. Can not imagine what would have happened if the blade went either left or right instead of up. Down would have been nice though.

There should be a little resistance when off and get looser the more you spin it. It shouldnt spin more than say 1/2-3/4 turn when you initially try to spin it. If it does you definetly need a new clutch. Try getting a different manufacturer or an oem clutch, this shoul last quite a while. Maybe if its a year old as you say you can get a refund or something. Over heating is not a good thing!!!!
