I recently purchased a 95 525iT. When I got the car it came with only one regular key and the plastic wallet key. Went to the dealer to have another key made. When it arrived, it would unlock the doors and turn the ignition on, but would not engage the starter. Took the key back and ordered another. It had the same problem. Dealer is now saying that a previous owner ordered a new EWS module and apparently never installed it, therefore the keys BMW is making are set to communicate with the EWS module that was ordered and never installed. They want $250 for a new module and 4 keys plus installation / programming. Dealer says that BMW cannot make keys for the original EWS that is still in the car. To complicate matters further, I have installed a MarkD chip and am afraid that if I install a new EWS module that the chip will no longer work. Any suggestions?
