View Full Version : I miss my e34
I've been working in Malibu, CA at Pepperdine University, running the video for Floyd Landis' arbitration hearing on doping during the Tour de France last year.
Staying at a hotel in Calabasas, my daily drive is 9 miles through Malibu Canyon. It's a beautiful drive, nice twisty road, but I'm doing it in a rented Jeep Commander. (Had to get something with a big capacity for hauling alot of gear) what a pig. Man, I wish I had my e34 for this commute!
Never thought I'd miss it so much...

Ken, you've been holding out on me.
I'm an ex-racer with ties to a few of Floyd's old team mates and watch the results of his hearing every day as it matters greatly to the future of a sport that consumed 10 great years, and one that I would encourage my children to participate in. Hey, you got to 'meet' Lemond, who was still riding and winning tours when I started racing. Whatta think of that whole mess? Are you able to cast any light on the proceedings for me?
Very interesting,
Dave M
Been here since 5/12, the hearings started on 5/14.
Today is the last day of the hearings, his legal team has cast serious doubt on the validity of the test procedures that produced the positive results.
I did not get to met LeMond, he didn't hang around long after dropping the bomb during his testimony. I've been too busy in the control room running things and dealing with the network media to do much of anything else.
It has been interesting, though...

Got stuck with a Jeep Commander in Orlando...a pig is right! But that's nothing. About 2 weeks after getting my '06 325I, I took my girlfriend to CA. I wanted show her Big Sir and propose to her up there. I had to drive a freaking Ford Mustang up the PCH!!! Almost wrecked the whole experience especially whenever I had to hear "nice car". All I could do is grin and stifle the temptation to tell then what a POS it was. We ARE spoiled!

Wanna wagon? Fun in the twistys and plenty of room for av equipment, or just use the tow package for a small wells cargo trailer.

PM me an offer whydoncha? I am about to put it in the Roundel, and local CCA.
Just added the final touches...the M5 lower trim pieces on the doors are on...what PITA that was to get them rotated inline with the M5 skirts. Lot's of scraping of goo left over from the rubber pieces. Looks absolutely perfect now. Had the rear seats re-dyed, and a new shifter walnut plate put in. Also had the rear towbar cover put back in with a few zip ties to keep it from being sucked out. Was on hwy 16 going about 105 when perchance I looked in the rear view to see it frisbeeing in the air. That U-turn and pick up saved me 3 weeks about about $100.
The touring would be great but it would only hold 1 of the 3 large pelican cases I gotta haul out of Pepperdine tomorrow (plus misc. crap). The bad part is I only needed to haul the stuff for 2 days and the rest of the time, drive this pig around sucking up $3.60/gal gas lumbering through the canyon.
I should go find an exotic to rent for the weekend, done tomorrow and staying until Sunday, got tickets to see the Dodgers/Cubs Friday night and will probably hit the beach for a day of R&R beore flying back east on Sunday.
I want my e34...just put new Toyo Proxes, new Mobil1 and Cool Blue coolant in/on it before I left, sure would be nice to break them in on these roads...:-)
