View Full Version : $10 for a brake bleeder screw at BMW?

I went to bleed by brakes last weekend and had 1 caliper bleed screw that would not come off with the 7mm wrench so I figure I would take the Vise Grips to it and replace it with a new one. I go to BMW over the weekend to get one and the parts counter guy tells me that they would have to order one. They sent all the ones they had back to BMW. He would order one for me and tells me that they are $10 each so I tell him to forget it. I look on the Pelican Parts website and they are $6.50 each. Am I missing something here? What is with the cost of these. Are they made of gold? Anyone know where to get these cheaper? I had planned to replace all 4 of them but not for $40!

Unless someone has cheaper source for bleeders they know wil fit, buy ONE from somewhere and then match it up at a cheapo-parts place that has bins of them. Can't hurt to try.

The Advance Autoparts online store (www.partsamerica.com) lists a pretty large selection of bleeder screws, all much cheaper than $10. The catch is that they don't seem to stock them in the stores. Any store will order them for you or at least you'll have a manufacturer part number to go by. HTH

Thanks Jeff. I already have the part number. Also Russ. I looked on the partsamerica website and they are still like $6.50 ea. Probably just bite the bullet and get them from BMW after all.

Got mine from NAPA. They have a good selection. Just take in an old one to go by.

I don't sweat the $5.00 and $10.00 parts anymore. It's the $125.00 and $250.00 parts that kill me.

30 of them for free you mean? That **** gets tossed in the bottom of the tool box while you're removing the real piece you're after. (Like a $0.05 rubber bleed screw cap).
