Just did an oil change and wondered is the orange wrap around on the filter suppose to be left on, i assumed it was so left it, correct?
Example if you dont know what i mean

cheers, never seen any other filters like that, suppose to be a primary filter or something or large particles ?

If it's made of stretchy diamond patterned plastic that slips off quite easily it's merely a transit protection and should definitely NOT be left on. Probably unlikely to do damage unless it melts into the filter and blocks it ......

I'm worried now - i changed mine a while back and i think i ripped the paper thing off, should i change it again? Sorry to impose on the thread - bit worried now.

I suspect it's there to hold the paper pleats in place and to protect the filter during manufacture/transit. Any other ideas anyone?

I have seen other filters like this in which it is intended to stay on. If you do not want to worry about it, buy Mann filters which come in a box and do not have the orange wrap. I got 4 of them from Drivewire for $44.48 delivered which is about the same as the guy on eBay gets with shipping.

they are around usd$5 from bma, mann brand also.

I don't know what sort of filter you are speaking of, the ones pictured in the auction are intended for that covering to remain on.

bought it from BMW themselves and took the paper off - surely this would rip and cause a blockage? The onei took out didn't have one on so i thought it would be ok?
