I own a 95 M50 525i. At 2000 rpm when the car is stationary, there is bad vibration. My mechanic said it could be the crankshaft (not properly balanced) or the torque converter. Any gurus here have any opinions before i take the plunge?

Hello John,

My 1994 M50 525I has the same thing. Driving or stationary, she shudderes at 2000 rpm's. my mechanic said the same thing: torque converter. Me too I am not willing to pay a lot of money on this diagnosis. Have you taken the plunge yet?

Greets,

Marc

And to add to that: it is hardly likely to be the drive shaft. This one is not engaged when standing stil with the gearbox in neutral. The torque converter does however spin, this one is bolted to the engine.

I will replace my tranny mounts tomorrow and see if it makes any difference.

Hey there,

Have replaced the trannie mounts and sofar it seems to make quite a difference. The old mounts were quite soft. I guess the cause of the vibration is still there but the new mounts dampen the sympyoms much better. Best 50 bucks spent in a long time.
