I recieved a pair of depo smoked corners from abrahamsmotorsport.com, but they don't match my Hella smoked tails because the corners aren't dark enough. I figured the procedure you guys use for smoking the OEM ambers would work just find to darken mine up a bit.
Do you put polyeurethane coating on them after painting?
What paint is best?
Anyways, I saw this too - I might make my old taillights that I took off red and sell them.

Any input is appreciated.

I'm quite certain mine are niteshades, but the PO did it
perhaps SEM chipguard instead of a clear coat?

Go to Lamin-x.com they have a bunch of shades you can put on your lights. Even yellow or blue.
Get some Krylon stained glass spray or something similar.

I already have Lamin-x, they don't sell a cut of the corner lights, but I could make some myself. I don't think you understand what I'm trying to do, I want to smoke my corners more than they already are (turn signals). That's all.

Any advice on this topic from the light freak is worth it's weight in gold.
But wait, you said glass spray? I'm talking about the plastic turn signal lenses...
thx

Light freak eh? Yeah, I guess so ;)
Yes, stained glass spray. That's the name of it but it's good on plastic too:

Your other choice is hobby tinting paint... but it's a lot pricier.
NOTE: this tip I got from Bruno. I personally use hobby tint spray, just because I have a lot lying around (from doing lexan bodies).
Ask Weazman... he's done all of his smoked lights and they're wonderful looking.

Black Hammerite spray (smooth gloss finish, not hammered)..
Apply a couple of thin coats, until it looks just-a-bit-too-dark... Give it a few days to cure properly, then gently go over it with a little cutting polish to bring up a real nice shine & remove any orange peel effect you may have :D

I cut in these lenses for my rear touring buckets.

I did use the hobby tinting liquid. I put it on the inside pretty thick, and then immediately got a paper towel and wiped out as much as I could. That left me with the perfect residue in the nooks and crannie which gave me a light tint.

I did tape off the amber bulb and paint the tip silver so no amber color could influence the look unless it was on.

a pic including nasty bumper-trims That's some nasty rash you have there.
Yea, was like that when I got it (honest).. Mainly why it was cheap to buy originally - looked a bit rough round the edges..
Have since restored them though - like new now!

(And I've replaced the broken door trim since this pic too, and given it a wash ;) )
And if we're talking rear lights - Rover Nightfire Red rattle-can touch up paint is about the same as the rear lights.. ;)
