View Full Version : Bosch Design III Injectors

I was contemplating replacing the injectors in my 535i (EAT chip)
Apart from the Ford (Bosch) #19 injectors which appear to be often recommended, Bosch also make something called 'Design III' Injectors which have a 4 orifice nozzle versus the pintle type. These also appear compatible with BMW M30's as they are a 19lb injector. Does anybody have any experience with these in an M30?

no experience but probably a better designed newer style injector. 4 smaller holes can also clog more easily VS the pintile design.

I run these. I think you'll find they run slightly less fuel than the stock ones when measured at the same pressure. e34 M30 injectors are bigger than e28 ones which were what people traditiionally replaced with the Mustang ones. MIne work fine. I used them as I was moving to 95 octane maps anyhow and figured the new ones are designed for higher octane fuels. :) Nick

Cheers. BTW - Where did you get your injectors and how much were they?I lucked out, they came off some GM abortion with about 60,000 miles in the US. Cost $20 + post of eBay (for 8) so I cleaned them in an ultrasonic cleaner (didn't need it probably) and installed the best 6... (2 spare so I can add more stuff to my pile of parts...). The ECU can make up for small differences in flow rate, but if up at WOT conditions it could be pushing things..however I can't tell. Car goes like the clappers with the Miler MAF conversion now anyhow. Only trouble I have is slightly higher compression due to the head job she needed 2 years back. Now I find running a mix of 95 and 98 RON (or just 98) to avoid a slight pinging. This might be natural when the maps are maxed out like (it did exactly the same thing with other chips before the MAF conversion)...
These new injectors are fine, but I can't say they actually improve things. Someone would need to dyno the swap from an older (known good) set and the new ones.
I still have my old set nad have often thought of popping them back in since they are definately the right ones for the car. Could always clean them up for you if you want a set you can trust. I just figured the Type IIs'd be better with ULP and PULP (95 and 98 RON) fuels since I was going that way anyhow. I can't say I'd do it again without any evidence to support it though. :) Nick

Did you eventually install these Pundit?
No. I'm still deciding whether or not to MAF and Megasquirt my 535.
I may then change the injectors.

I am wondering if there is better fuel mileage with these injectors... If there is, then it is worth it.
