View Full Version : Need an E39 forum
Is anyone here familiar with a good DIY repair forum for the E39?
I've been sniffing around bimmerfest and unofficial bmw,and not found much to be useful. I'm looking for repair info and diagnostic help.
This forum is exceptional, guess I'm spoiled.

it's where all the local E39 guys are at around here in Portland, I'm sure it's the most popular E39 board in the country.

Hello from bimmerfest :)
Hey Dood, hows the technical knowledge over there? I searched and read a few posts but was unimpressed. Some of the links looked good but weren't available.
Should I give it another go?

It's great honestly. you have to sift through teh field of noobs to get to the good ones. I'll put you in touch with the 3 or 4 gurus over there, im kinda becoming one honestly. Whaddya need?
Bought a '99 528i and set off the alarm yesterday, everything is very strange since.
Seems to be a big current draw now, runs down the(9mo old) battery in hours.
My voltmeter quit a while back and I don't have any wiring diagrams or even component locations. Needless to say I'm illequipped for this right now.
If you can connect me to some wiring diagrams and the component locators that would be great.
Meantime, off to the tool store.
Ther was LOTS of audio equipment in this car and a cellphone cradle. All now disconnected. I'm hoping no correlation.

Post your questions here as well - this forum isn't only for E34s, just MAINLY E34s.
Some of us have both and some of the gurus here do work on E39s whether they like them as much as E34s or not.
You might be surprised what you can learn about your E39 on this forum.

Hi,
In February I bought a '98 528i 5 spd with sport pkg and I found a lot of info on E39's on bimmerboard.com or roadfly. I noticed that there is a jimcash who hangs out on both boards and is quite knowledgeable on issues related to these cars. I would suggest you check out archives on both boards - he has a few posts regarding alarms and electrical issues. Unfortunately I haven't found any electrical schematics on the net. I'm not even sure if the Bently manual (2 pc set) would have those schematics.
Steven G.
Thanks for the replies. I'm starting another thread.
