i got these 18" style 5s not to long ago, alot of work went into them, taking them apart, stripping them, cleaning off rash, polishing, etc. i love these wheels to death, but i want to run much bigger rubber in the rear. i found some one to trade for some mpars, 9.5 rears.8 front. but i dont know if i want to do it!! i love my style 5s way to much esp. cuz i refinished them myselfway to much but theres just not enough meat in the back!

I'd love the 18" style 5's if you're getting rid of them - I'd totally fix them up
I absolutely love your car btw, regardless of wheels - honestly I think the mpars are more fitting to the sportier look of the car that you've got going here
I agree with the others, the 18" style 5s need to stay. However, having 10" rear wheels I can vouch for their amazing looks.
Tough decision there. I voted.

I have 17in Style 5s and I just bought some M Pars so I'm in the same boat but my style 5s need a refurb and they are 17s and my MPars are the same size all round. I thought mpars were the best wheels you could get for an e34 until i saw the 18in style 5s, now I'm not so sure. The Mpars look sportier, the style 5s are more of a classic look so its down to taste or mood! What I will say though is that style 5s look superb when clean but don't look as special as they get dirtier, MPars still look good even when covered in grime. I know you should clean them regularly but if its your daily driver and you have a family and the weather is shite you don't always get the time!
Its a difficult choice, one with no wrong answer but a great choice to have!!

It's really hard choice, I can't make the choice, so I have both styles + 17" Style 5 and 17" M System II on my four (was five to last sunday) 540i/6 E34.
My choice if I were you is have them both, even if you have only one E34.

Well with such divided opinions here, this is obviously a testament to the beauty of your car and your choice of wheels thus far. Thus it comes down to personal preference... but since you asked... as mentioned previously, it's SPORTY vs. CLASSY and I'm gonna have to say sporty, i.e. m pars, I really think the E34s lend themselves a little more in that direction.
style 5's!!!! .. I basically did the same thing. I sold my mpars when I got my 18" style 5's. I do miss the wider 9.5 wheel, and would love to have the wider barrels (ideally 10"), but the rarity def. makes the decision.
I run the same tires on the rear, and might run a spacer to fill out the gap.

Huh? Are you serious? You have got to be kidding me, right? Shitty handling do to wider tires? That's only true if you go way too wide like 375 in the rear or something crazy like that... Reason you don't go too wide is because you loose the feel of the car and also suspension might not be tuned with that wide of a tire. Trust me, 265 or 255 are perfect size for the rear for E34. I have 235 fronts and 255 rears and love it!
How wide are the style 5 rims? If 8.5", you can fit 255.

yeah i just ignored the comment about the handling...
the wheels are 18x8...how bad would it be to run spacers in the rear? what kind of spacers would i get?
yeah i coulda ran some bigger rubber but i rushed into buying the tires...next time ill get 235 or maybe even bigger.

You don't need spacers if you stay under 265. However, with 8" wide rim, 255 or higher is not recommended. Tire might slighlty bow. On my style 42, I have 255 on the rear even though they are 17x8. It seemed to fit perfectly fine and handles much better than having 235s all around. However, with 18" might be little different since you have less sidewall.

yeah, i know you dont need spacers for fatter rubber...but just to fill the rear gap between the wheel and the fender so it looks fuller

would i feel a difference? would it effect the performance?

Yep; it would fill the gap better and look much more aggressive. But you will loose little bit of power to the wheel as you push them out.

EBAY! Just make sure it is made out of quality aluminium. Is your Style 5 hub centric? If not, I'm not sure about spacers... If I'm not mistaken, hub centric spacers need to be at least 15mm wide and that would be too much... Anyway, good luck! Love those rims! :D

hubcentric? whats that?
they are hubcentric... the 18" Style 5's only came on the e32 (i believe), therefore will have the proper hub size.
to answer your question... the E34 hub size is 72.5mm. the bore on the wheels must be the same because the wheels force is centered around the hub. If you had aftemarket wheels, or even those from a e39, the hub size will be 74.1mm, and would cause a vibration at higher speeds because the wheels are not 'snug' on hub.
EDIT: Also, I have the stagerred 18" style 5's.. The rears are 18x9. Not quite the 18x9.5 that is on the mpars, but I still run 265/35's in the rear. I would say keep on the look out for a 18x9 rear and we can talk.. I have a spare one that I may be willing to trade for one of your 18x8's if you can't find 2 of them.

If the M Para has deep dish, I would do it... but no... doesn't look all that great.

No prob, I'm envious. I wish I knew where to find those. I've got the 17" with 235 all around 17x7 I believe is what these are.
