The E30 guys do it all the time, have a look at this site:

you have to register and have cookies turned on for that site at least.

Go to "forum" then "engine swaps/forced induction" and search or browse, there are many questions on that topic. I don't know how much it applies since you have an e34 host but it's a lot of good info to start with.
