I was coming to a red light and i hear *DING*and see *SPEED LIMIT* on the cluster. It's goes away and the speedo needle jerks up to about 60mph. A few seconds later it does it again and then once more... No fault codes on the stomp test. What could this be? could it get worse?

OBC has a speed limit that can be set to alert you. Press the m mph button to see what it's set at.
Maybe the speed sensor in the diff is acting up making the OBC think you are exceeding whatever limit was set.

if you have an OBC4, you have a limit option.

check to see if the red bulb near the limit button on the obc is lit. press limit button, and then uncheck it with the button in the upper right corner. in the german version e34 it says S/R on that button.

What is OBC4? I assumed they were all the same, but I've never been in another e34.

S/R. Is that german for "set / reset" ? :D

At the time of the error, there was no speed set. And since it wasn't set. It's wasn't activated.

It says S/R button is set/reset in the owners manual...

Oh, about the question, like Ross, my $$ is on a fault in the speed sensor telling the OBC you've momemtarily exceeded the speed limit.

hey dave

there are two types of boardcomputers, obc 4 which has 12 buttons, and the obc3 which has only 6. fewer functions naturally.
