A/M switch position trans program error

Still working on my trans program message and wanting to know when the ignition is turned to pos 2, wil the A/M change on the dash without starting engine? I have gotten to the error to appear when engine starts, before it would come on when I turned on ignition. Trying to systematically find the problem by working through each item.

when key turned to pos 2. you can switch to E(A) or M mode.

switch which I read can be also be used and it still won't change A/M display on dash. I guess the next step is to trace the plug to the next point and work from there. I also checked the brake band solenoid valve and there was trans fluid on plug. I suspect there should be none, can someone confirm this? I thought I read that somewhere in the archives but can't locate now.

check to see if the wires on the plug haven't desoldered themselves, i had that problem. it kept my switch from switching...
